High throughput. Consistent quality. Clear workflows.

BCS-2 supports professional digitisation processes, from straightforward standard scanning to demanding project workflows. The software guides you through the key steps: capture, post-processing, indexing and output.

The result is digital content that is not only scanned, but properly processed, structured and ready for reliable handover. BCS-2 is suitable for individual scanning workstations as well as productive environments with recurring workflows, high volumes and clear quality requirements.

Libraries & archives

Digitise holdings quickly and in a structured way

BCS-2 supports typical tasks in libraries and archives – from document delivery, interlibrary loan and catalogue enrichment to retrospective digitisation of historical holdings. Digital objects are captured, checked, structured and provided in the required formats.

Museums

Capture objects and related materials digitally

For museums, BCS-2 supports the digital capture of objects, documents and related materials. Images and metadata can be prepared in a structured way and handed over to collection, documentation or target systems.

Businesses & public administration

Digitise documents and records efficiently

In businesses and public administration, BCS-2 supports recurring digitisation tasks such as incoming mail, invoices, records, legacy files and specialist documents. Clear workflows help capture documents consistently and prepare them for further digital processing.

Service providers & projects

Productive scanning with repeatable results

For scanning service providers and project-based digitisation, BCS-2 is designed for high volumes, clear process steps and flexible output. Workflows can be adapted to different customer requirements, formats and target structures.

From capture to handover

The following example workflow shows how BCS-2 supports typical digitisation tasks end to end – from capturing source materials and post-processing to indexing and output into defined formats or target structures.

Capture

Source materials are scanned directly, or existing image files are imported into the process. This allows newly created digital objects and existing files to be processed in a consistent workflow.

Post-process

Images are optimised for consistent quality. This includes functions such as cropping, rotating, deskewing, masking and other corrections.

Check

Digital objects can be reviewed and corrected where needed before moving on to the next process steps. This helps ensure quality requirements are handled directly within the workflow.

Index

Index data, metadata, page information or OCR results are added. This makes digital objects easier to find, more structured and better prepared for downstream systems.

Output or hand over

At the end of the workflow, results are exported to the required formats, repositories or target structures. Digital objects can then be provided consistently or handed over to downstream systems.

Professional scanning software for structured digitisation workflows

BCS-2 is professional scanning and workflow software for digitising documents, books, records and other source materials. It supports the entire process: from capture and post-processing to indexing, output and handover into defined repositories, formats and systems.

Capture, process, structure and output

BCS-2 combines image capture, post-processing, quality control, indexing and output in one continuous application. In addition to classic tools such as cropping, rotating, deskewing and masking, it provides functions for structured workflows, metadata capture, OCR and flexible output.

Configurable interfaces, broad scanner support and extension options through workflows and scripts make BCS-2 a flexible tool for a wide range of digitisation tasks.

Two editions for different requirements

BCS-2 office is the right edition for standardised scanning workflows with clear tasks and high throughput. It provides the core functions for import, processing, export, job management, PDF output and indexing.

BCS-2 pro is designed for more demanding digitisation projects with greater automation, process variety and configuration options. In addition to the BCS-2 office feature set, BCS-2 pro provides extended batch processing, scripting, workflow functions and broader OCR capabilities.

Broad support for different scanning environments

BCS-2 supports a wide range of scanners and devices where a suitable 64-bit TWAIN driver is available. Through this interface, flatbed scanners, sheet-fed scanners, overhead scanners and modern digital copiers can be connected.

Additional integrations are available for selected scanners and digital cameras. Several scanners can also be operated from one PC. Depending on the source material, users can work with the appropriate device within a job without interrupting the digitisation process.

Modules and extensions

Included as standard

ImportSuite

Integrate existing scans and image files seamlessly into your workflows.

With ImportSuite, existing files or image folders can automatically be turned into new jobs. Existing OCR results in ALTO format can optionally be imported as well. This allows you to integrate already digitised materials into your workflows and process them with the same structure as newly created scans – without media breaks and with clear process control.

PDF Suite

Create PDF and PDF/A files reliably.

The PDF Suite creates PDF and PDF/A files directly from your workflows. Depending on the configuration, several PDFs can also be generated from a single job – for example for different output variants, target structures or handovers.

IndexSuite

Capture metadata in a structured way and reuse it.

With IndexSuite, index and structural data can be captured at job and page level. This includes pagination, page indexing and hierarchical structures. Digital objects become easier to find, consistently described and prepared for targeted further processing.

Additional functions in BCS-2 pro

WorkflowSuite

Create individual workflows for complex processes.

With WorkflowSuite, workflows can be defined and managed for different use cases – including indexes, transfer targets, export formats and additional process and display settings. Users work within clearly defined, reproducible workflows.

OCR Suite

Integrate text recognition flexibly and reuse the results.

The OCR Suite enables text recognition with different OCR engines. OCR can be applied to entire jobs, individual pages or page segments. The results can be used for searchable PDFs or transferred into index, metadata and structural data fields – depending on the workflow and target process.

Optional extensions

BarcodeSuite

Control scanning jobs automatically using barcodes.

BarcodeSuite detects defined barcodes in scans and can automatically reuse their values – for example to populate index fields or control workflows. This reduces manual input and speeds up processes, especially with large volumes or recurring routines.

MyBib Connector for document delivery

Integrate document delivery directly into your system landscape.

With this connector, images or PDFs created in BCS-2 can be transferred to a mybib eDoc environment. This creates a continuous process from capture through to delivery and provision within document delivery workflows.

MyBib Connector for catalogue enrichment

Provide scans specifically for catalogue enrichment.

BCS-2 works as a scanning client together with mybib eDoc. Scanning jobs are taken over and the resulting digital objects are provided specifically for catalogue enrichment – clearly structured and workflow-based.

BCS-2 is available in two editions:

BCS-2 office for standardised scanning workflows and BCS-2 pro for more demanding workflows with extended automation, workflow and OCR functions.

The right edition, extensions and services depend on your scanning environment, required workflows, target systems and desired level of automation.
