4. Context Menu Images and Context Menu Tiles

4.1 Context Menu Images

The context menu image is opened via a right-click on the current image. The context menu provides further image processing functions, some of which can only be called up and activated via the context menu. The context menu contains all functions and options related to tiles.

4.1.1 Image functions

* Zoom Area: Zoom into the image by selecting an area, the area is then enlarged.  Navigation within the picture can then be done using the drag and move function or via the mouse. Turning the mouse wheel will vertically scroll the image. You can also scroll horizontally if you hold the SHIFT key while turning the mouse wheel. Holding the CTRL key will zoom in and out of an image, depending on which way the mouse wheel is turned.

Drag and Move: This feature can be used to navigate within an image whilst it is enlarged. To drag and move the image  the left mouse button and drag the mouse in the direction you want to navigate.

* Erase area: The content of the marked area is colored white, the deleted area is clipped into the clipboard, it can now be inserted into the job as a new image or transferred to a document outside of BCS-2.

* Erase outer area: The area outside the area marked is colored white.

OCR Zone to Clipboard: Dragging an area will copy the OCR data within the area to the clipboard, it can then be copied into job or page indexes. The OCR result is also displayed in the toolbar with the icon for OCR areas and can be corrected there (if the toolbar is available).

If the options When performing OCR for the whole page: keep the resulting OCR-Doc object for later use and If availble: use the kept OCR-Doc Object for zoned OCR were activated in the workflow settings (Tab OCR) the OCR isn´t created when an OCR zone is dragged. The OCR data is copied out of the OCR-Doc of the page. This saves time as there is no need for a new OCR run and the result of the OCR is better because the OCR was done for the complete page (context sensitive OCR).

*Manual Deskew: A line can be drawn to determine the angle of skew. The correction angle is displayed  while the line is being drawn. To draw the line, the left mouse button must be held, the correction line can be drawn vertically or horizontally.

4.1.2 Tile Functions

Select area: With Select area, you can mark an image section with a tile. The area can be cropped to create a new image or its contents used for metadata enrichment. For areas, or area tiles, an additional context menu with options is available, as well as batch options that can be accessed via the Job menu and that are explained in the corresponding chapter.

Select multiple areas: Several areas can be marked on the image by creating tiles. The tiles are numbered to show the order in which the tiles were created.  An additional context menu with options is available for the areas or area tiles, as well as batch options that can be accessed via the Job menu and explained in the corresponding chapter.

Clear area selection: All created areas (tiles) are deleted.

* Delete Tile on Click: If this option is activated, tiles can be deleted by using SHIFT and left-click mouse. Alternatively, an area can be dragged over several tiles to delete the tiles at the same time.

* Unite Tiles in Click: If this option is activated, tiles can be joined together. To do this, the first tile is selected and all other tiles are selected by SHIFT and left-click to automatically add them to the first one. Alternatively, an area can be drawn over several tiles to unite these tiles.

Mark Tiles: With this function, several tiles in an image can be marked for functions, either by dragging an area over the desired tiles or by selecting the tiles individually with SHIFT and click. Marked tiles are indicated by an M in the left corner next to the tile number.

*Save Selections: The position of the existing areas is saved. The function is especially useful in the context of C-3 plus.

*Restore Selections: Previously saved areas are retrieved and displayed on the image. The function is especially useful in the context of C-3 plus.

4.1.3 General functions

*Copy to clipboard: The marked area is copied to the clipboard. The copy can be inserted as a new image in BCS-2 or transferred and inserted into another document.

* Undo (Ctrl+Z): All functions performed for the image will be reset. The original image, which is always saved as a backup, or the last actively saved version of the image is displayed.

* Confirm: Confirm the performed action(s) or perform action (e.g. masking) and save the edited image. The original image is replaced by the new image.

*Copy (Ctrl+C): Copy Image to paste it elsewhere in the current or another job . A copy of the image is placed in the clipboard.

*Cut (Ctrl+X): Remove the image to paste it elsewhere in the job. The image is placed in the clipboard.

*Paste (Ctrl+V): Insert a cut or copied image or area from the clipboard. The image is inserted behind the currently selected image in the job.

* Paste from file : Navigate to a file folder and select images that are to be inserted into the job via the dialog.

Image information: When importing images, BCS-2 reads the image information contained therein (size, resolution, color depth, manufacturer, etc.). This information as well as OCR or index inforamtion can be accessed via the menu item Image Information.

 Toggle Viewer Grid: A grid is displayed on the image. The grid color and width are set by the administrator in the General Settings / Grid and Rulers tab.

* Save as: Save single image, export format and target folder can be determined via the dialog. The image can be saved as a JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PDF or in a ZIP file.

 

*Delete Image: Delete the current image.

4.1.4 Split Lines

*Toggle vertical splitline: A vertical split line is displayed on the image and can be positioned. The division of the pages can be carried out via Enter or the function Split image vertically in the menu Image (or context menu, see below)

*Toggle horizontal splitline: A horizontal split line is displayed on the image and can be positioned. The division of the pages can be carried out via Enter or the function Split image horizontally in the menu Image (or context menu, see below)

Split image vertically: The image is split in halves according to the set split line

Split image horizontally: The image is split according to the set split line.

4.2 Areas (Tiles)

The functions Select area and Select multiple areas can only be accessed and activated via the context menu in the viewer. Areas differ from the masks in their properties and functions. In addition to cropping images or cropping image areas, areas can also be used for indexing and metadata enrichment, or in the context of C-3 plus as a marker for TOC entries.

If the option Pressing ENTER will perform multi-crop operation when more than one selection exists is not activated for the workflow, areas cannot be used to split or crop images. In this case, only the masks and dividing lines are available for cutting the images.

Areas are drawn by holding down the left mouse button and selecting the respective area. The selected area is indicated by a tile, highlighted in blue. In the left corner of the tile, the number of the area is displayed so that the order in which the areas were created is visible.

Size and position of the areas is also displayed on the respective thumbnails.

4.3 Context Menu Area (Tile)

Each area / tile has a context menu with options. The context menu can be accessed via a right-click in the area.

Unselect Tile: Deactivates the tile selection, the tile is no longer marked. (The M in the left comer disappears)

Unselect All Tiles: The selection of all tiles is removed (The M in the left comer disappears)

Ungroup All Tiles: The entire area group is dissolved (The G in the left corner of the tile disappears)

Delete Tile: The selected tile is deleted

Delete All Tiles: All tiles are deleted.

Do OCR: Text recognition (OCR) is performed for the selected area. If OCR was already performed for the page and the workflow option When performing OCR for the whole page: keep the resulting OCR-Doc object for later use and was activated in the workflow settings (Tab OCR) the OCR data is extracted from the result of the page OCR.  This saves time and, in the case of ABBYY, clicks because no new OCR run needs to be done. The result of the OCR is also better, because the OCR was performed for the complete page (context-sensitive OCR).

Detect Barcode: (Prerequisite barcode module) The barcode within the selected area is read out. The result is saved in the clipboard and can be inserted at the desired location. In addition, the barcode result is saved in the properties of the area and can be accessed via the Properties dialog (see below).

Properties: The properties dialog of the area is called. The properties of an area can be used, among other things, as a tool for indexing and metadata enrichment.

Following properties can be stored for each area:

• Type: A text type (e.g., heading, text, caption) can be selected from the drop-down list assigned to the area.
• Name: Name of the area
• Information:
• Optional short description  Barcode: Value of the barcode within the tile
• OCR text: OCR result of the tile
• Geometry: Displays the position of the area within the image and the image size.

Using the Properties dialog, the OCR results of an area can be assigned to a job index, if the option Let the user set a tile´s OCR text to a selected index was activated in the workflow (OCR tab) and indexes with the activated option Tile Context: this index is selectable when assigning a tile´s OCR to an index were created.

Using the buttons below the OCR text window, the OCR results can be assigned to an index provided via the drop-down list.

• Set index: The result is taken over as a new job index, existing entries are overwritten.
• Append to index: The OCR text is appended to an existing index value
• Clear: The OCR text is deleted

When using areas for job indexing, it is recommended to activate the option automatically open the tile properties on clicking the tile in the OCR tab, so that the dialog does not have to be called via the context menu.

Combine Left The area to the left of the selected area is added to the active area. The areas are grouped automatically.

Combine Right The area to the right of the selected area is added to the active area. The areas are grouped automatically.

Group: Areas on an image can be combined to build a group. By grouping the tiles, they can be moved together or the contents of the tiles can be inserted into the job as a single new image. The original image will not be deleted during this action. Grouped areas are marked with a G on the left tile side. Tiles can also be grouped via CTRL and mouse click.

Ungroup: The selected area is removed from the group. (The G inside the tile disappears )

Clone Tile: The selected area is duplicated and  following options are available for the position of the new area:

• Clone Left: The new tile is placed on the left side of the active tile
• Clone Right: the new tile is placed on the right side of the active tile
• Clone Top: The new tile is placed above the active tile
• Clone Bottom: The new tile is placed beneath the active tile

If the new area does not fit next to the selected area, it will overlap.

Move Tile: Areas can be renumbered and moved to central locations of the image, with the following options:

Change tile order:

• To Top: The selected area will be renumbered, will receive the number 1 and will be added to the job as the first new resulting image after splitting the image
• To Bottom:  The selected area will be renumbered and will be the tile with the highest number, after splitting the image it will be the last image that is added to the job. All other tiles will be renumbered according to their position.

Change position:

• Move to center: The area is positioned in the center of the image
• Move to TopLeft: The area is moved to the upper left corner
• Move to TopRight: The area is moved to the upper right corner
• Move to BottomLeft: The area is moved to the lower left corner
• Move to BottomRight: The area is moved to the lower right corner

Resize Tile: The size of a tile can be defined following options are available:

• Resize to Full: (Full image size)
• Resize to A3
• Resize to A4
• Resize to A5
• Resize to User-Size in mm:The desired size can be specified in mm in the new dialog.

Rulers and Calibration: Within tiles different rulers can be displayed, it is also possible to determine and adjust the true resolution of the area and the image.

The following options are available:

• Hide Ruler
• horizontal Ruler (cm)
• vertical Ruler (cm)
• horizontal Ruler (Inches)
• vertical Ruler (Inches)
• calibrate Image

In the Calibrate Rectangle dialog, the real resolution of the current image section and thus of the image can be determined (true dpi).

• current Rectangle: In the upper half of the dialog, the current size (width and height) of the selected area is displayed, as well as the resolution.
• Adjusting the resolution: The real resolution (dpi) of theimage section can be determined in the lower area. This value can be included in the metadata and used to correct the resolution of the entire image.

To determine the true resolution, the correct size of the selected area must be known,  the scan must contain an area of a defined / known size that can be framed.
By using the batch operation Set DPI of image to DPI of current job-page in the menu Job / Apply an operation on the job, the real resolution can be applied to all images.

Split lines: Through a split line, the image resulting from the selected area is simply divided, regardless of which split line is selected, left / right or upper / lower. 

• Toggle Left Splitline
• Toggle Right Splitline
• Toggle Top Splitline
• Toggle Bottom Splitline
• Reset Splitlines

When a split line pair is activated (left and right /top and bottom), the areas can be split in two ways, depending on how the split lines are positioned.

• Middle area is cut away: In the combinations Left Splitline (red line) on the left side of the area, Right Splitline (blue line) on the right side of the area and Top Splitline (green line) in the upper part of the area, Bottom Splitline (yellow line) in the lower part of the area, the area between the lines (Turquoise area) is removed when the image is split.
• Middle area is appended to both new images (overlapping): In the combinations Left Splitline (red line) on the right side of the range, Right Splitline (blue line) on the left, and Top Splitline (green line)  in the lower part of the range, Bottom Splitline (yellow line) in the upper part of the range, the range between the lines (turquoise backed area) is attached to both resulting images.
