Complete Solutions for digitization projects
Since January 1st the Bonn-based ImageWare Components GmbH will focus on the development of its software solutions for the creation, administration and delivery of digitized media.
The sales of Bookeye® book scanners will be assisted by an increased support team. The international hardware sales were sold to the Wuppertal-based firm ImageAccess.
As partner to a multitude of libraries and archives ImageWare Components provides comprehensive solutions for the digitization and preservation of cultural assets.
The core software product is the workflow system MyBib eDoc®, which has proven itself in numerous major projects since 2002. This system sets the standard for mass-digitization processes, electronic document delivery and for catalogue enrichment projects.
Important components of the MyBib eDoc® workflow processes are the BCS-2® und C-3 software solutions also developed by ImageWare Components.
The BCS-2® software, first introduced in 1997, allows for scan processes to be seamlessly integrated into MyBib eDoc® or other workflow processes. BCS-2® provides ports for satellite, flat-bed, rotary and microfilm scanners and has been installed over 2000 times across the world.
C-3 is used for the content capture of magazines and periodicals. Together with BCS-2®, C-3 is a single-user solution, used with MyBib eDoc® it becomes a multi-user solution.
The most recent segment of software under development by ImageWare Components is the presentation of documents in conformity with copyright regulations. Together with the research partner Frauenhofer Institue for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS), ImageWare Components has developed revolutionary solutions for the electronic reading room. This software respects the strict boundaries of copyright protection while at the same time offering real value to the user.
In this context ImageWare Components initiated the „ImageAcademyDay" series of lectures in 2009 to communicate the different aspects of such a reading room solution. In these seminars, external professionals clarify legal questions and inform about the effects for libraries. These lectures will continue in 2010, enhanced with changes in legal regulation.
In terms of personnel, the ImageWare team around director Rolf Rasche is joined by Roland Keck on March 1st, who brings his longtime OCLC experience into project execution as well as into the development and sales areas.
For discussions and feedback, ImageWare Components will be at the CeBIT in Hall 3, Booth E20. At the library congress in Leipzig the company will be on Floor 0, Booth C06. In the framework of this congress, Dr. Christoph Müller from the IAI will present a lecture on the topic of „Innovative Processes for Cataloging and Magazine-capture: A Field Report on the Use of MyBib eDoc® and C-3 at the Ibero-American Institut, Prussian Cultural Heritage (IAI)", on 17.03.2010, from 12:30 - 13:30 pm in the seminar room 14/15.
