Every EMMA issue from the first edition in 1977 up to now has been digitised!

ImageWare and scientists from Fraunhofer IAIS, in cooperation with EMMA (a political magazine completely run by women) and the North Rhine Westphalia Library Service Centre (hbz), digitised, structurally analysed and indexed every issue of the EMMA from the first edition in 1977 onwards.

Every single edition of the approximately 300 issues can now be found in the EMMA reading room. As of September 15th, 2011 scientist, media and interested people have the chance to view over 25.348 pages of the EMMA, free of charge. Even editions which are no longer available, like the first edition, are once again accessible. For Alice Schwarzer, the founder of the journal, this was a politically motivated decision, because:" If you have no history, you don´t have a future. EMMAdigital is a project against oblivion and for the future." (www.emma.de/service/emma-lesesaal)

Apart from EMMAdigital the presentation will focus on Bambalinas, early 20th century theatre magazines from Argentina, as well as digital copies of the professional journal BITonline. (Hall 4.2, Stand N424)
